BarcampKerala 7, My experiences

I got 3 days off and that gave me the chance to present my session at BCK 7. I was planning to go home on 18th and from there to the BCK7 venue on 20th morning. But I was in night shift on 17th. I came room on 18th morning and slept. I was so tiered, so I post pond the travel to next day. Next day only I thought about the laptop that I need to present the session at BCK7. I don’t have a laptop, so I called my brother and asked, if he know some one who can gave one for presenting the seminar. But he was clueless. Fortunately I got one from my co-worker and started my journey to my home at Cherthala on 19th evening. I reached home at around 7PM after 1 and half hour of journey in my two wheeler.

After having a refreshing tea and bath I took the laptop to start preparing the presentation. But because of my bad luck laptop started to act wired. That was restarting for any operation that needs a hard disk access. I tried several solution and even re-installed the operating system. At last I got that in working state at around 12:30AM on 20th. I started the presentation preparation, but that was harder than I expected. I didn’t finished it after working about 3 hours. I got frustrated and went for sleep and decided to abandon the BCK7 project. I woke up around 9’0 clock on 20th and started the laptop. I was so disappointed thinking that I missed the BCK7. I thought I should finish the presentation, so that I can use that some where else. I got so addicted to the topic, so I forgot about my breakfast and lunch. I finished the presentation about 12:00PM. My mother started shouting saying that I was sitting there in-front of the computer without having any food or drink. After finishing the presentation I felt that I should go to the BCK and present it there. I finished my lunch quickly and started the journey on my bike at around 12:30PM from Cherthala to Kristu Jyoti College. Reached there at 2:15 and saw that the event is at its end. I was so confused because that was the first time I was going to take a session at BCK. I asked Praseed bhai about the procedures and he helped me and asked me to take the session after binny’s presentation on dual monitor setup.

I got the chance to attend 3 sessions. Which were on “Recycling Old Computers using LTSP”, “Innovation-”The UST Global Way”” and “Multi Monitor Machines”. After that I got chance to present my session on “Device management in modern Linux system”. I went ahead explaining the use of Udev, Hal and Dbus in Linux. Praseed was one man with lot of questions as usual. I finished the session explaining and answering the questions. I was so happy that the audience felt it good :-)
